Proven Leadership
Stephen has served as Municipal Court Judge in Peachtree City since 2006 and is committed to bringing that experience to Fayette County State Court. He has initiated numerous programs in Municipal Court, resulting in cost savings for city residents, and making Peachtree City Municipal Court a model for many other jurisdictions. He has served two terms as President of the Fayette County Bar Association, and has served as both a prosecutor and a defense attorney, providing him with valuable insight to both sides of the judicial system. Stephen has also served as Club President and Lt. Governor in Kiwanis International. His proven leadership makes him distinctly qualified to be Fayette County's next State Court Judge.
Efficiency
Stephen has greatly reduced the costs of operating Municipal Court in Peachtree City by cutting time police officers and the public spend in the court, and by reducing his own billed hours as Judge. Under his leadership, the time police officers spend in court has been reduced by 75 percent, resulting in savings from overtime, and keeping the officers on the road protecting the citizens, That means a savings to taxpayers, who pay more than $20 an hour when police officers are tied up in court. Stephen plans to bring this commitment to efficiency to Fayette County State Court, meaning a savings to all county taxpayers.
Innovation
Under Stephen, offenders logged nearly 13,000 hours of community service in Peachtree City in 2011. This community service was performed through Keep Peachtree City Beautiful, and resulted in a savings of more than $100,000 to Peachtree City. He has also instituted programs that are designed to prevent repeat offenders, and provide educational opportunities for offenders. He instituted programs to assist young drivers in bettering themselves, rather than collecting their money and sending them on their way. This type innovation in Fayette County State Court could mean more cost-savings to all Fayette County residents.
